For rideshare and delivery drivers
Expense tracking for rideshare and delivery drivers
Driving for an app makes you self-employed, and your income has to be reported whether or not you get a 1099. Your car is your biggest expense, so the receipts and records behind it matter. BookFlash keeps every gas, parking, toll and phone receipt ready for tax time.
Sound familiar?
Small receipts, every day
A toll here, a parking fee there, a car wash on Sunday. Each one is small, but they add up over a year.
Two ways to deduct the car
You can use the standard mileage rate or your actual costs. Either way, you need records to back it up.
Income from more than one app
If you drive for several platforms, your earnings and forms come from several places, and it’s easy to lose track.
Receipts worth keeping
Expenses that are commonly deductible for rideshare & delivery drivers, when they’re ordinary and necessary for your business.
- Your car: standard mileage
- Business miles times the IRS rate. With this method, gas, repairs and insurance are not deducted separately.
- Your car: actual expenses
- The alternative: the business share of gas, repairs, insurance, registration and depreciation. Keep every receipt.
- Parking and tolls
- Business parking and tolls are deductible with either car method.
- Phone and data
- The business-use share of your phone plan, and phone mounts and chargers used for driving.
- Passenger and delivery supplies
- Items you buy for the work, such as insulated delivery bags.

Common questions
- Does BookFlash track miles?
- No. BookFlash stores receipts, not trips. Keep a mileage log (date, destination, business purpose and miles), and use our free calculator to estimate your deduction.
- If I use the standard mileage rate, do I need gas receipts?
- Gas isn’t deducted separately under the standard mileage rate, but parking and tolls are. Keeping gas receipts also lets you compare the two methods.
- Do I have to report income if I didn’t get a 1099?
- Yes. The IRS says gig income must be reported even if it isn’t on a Form 1099-K, 1099-NEC or other form.
- Is the free plan enough?
- The Free plan covers 10 receipts a month. If you log receipts most days, Pro gives you 150 a month for $9.99.
